About IFC

The Intermountain Forestry Cooperative was founded in 1980 as the Intermountain Forest Tree Nutrition Cooperative at the University of Idaho.  For over three decades the Tree Nutrition Cooperative established the basis of Forest Site Type nutrient management for the Inland Northwest, US through extensive mid and late rotation forest research. Through these efforts, the IFTNC established the role of diverse regional soil parent material and climatic regimes on forest health and productivity for the major conifer species of the region.

Over the past two decades, the IFTNC became the IFC, reflecting a broader mix of forest research, beyond nutrition. Building on the legacy of the past three decades, the IFC has extended into operational realized genetic gain trials, early stand silviculture, spatial forest carrying capacity modeling, and integration of remote sensing into research workflows.

The IFC is generously supported by forest industry and public land management organizations, spanning County, State and Federal partners.
